Me, I prefer to use water-dissolvable thread for this application.

I’ve had “tracing paper” marks stay in *forever*, so never again on that, anywhere that it might show.

If I use coarse tacking thread, I make sure it’s a color similar to the fabric. Getting the lint “out” from tacking and/or basting thread can be troublesome. Please never ever use junk thread that might *bleed* when pieces are steam pressed.

I’ve also used Tailor’s chalk (which isn’t actually a chalk) with pins for pattern marking. It works faster than basting.

Except for my suture scissors for needlepoint and my plastic scissors for jury duty, etc., all of my scissors have sharp points.
