dilemma winter coat?

So I have a problem, my mother bought me a winter coat size 6, when the need for a size 2. I really need to reduce it without having to measure. Then paste it into the dryer, without wetting or should be washed first, which also extends belt tightening things in the house but only a little tighter in wait, for it is too big and too late to return.
